The BSc

Within the BSc-programme Biotechnology, the most compulsary courses are scheduled in the first year of the program. Most of these compulsary courses are scheduled in the first year. In the second year, various possibilities are offered to make choices in the courses you want to attend: the so-called "restricted optionals". With these courses you can give the desired direction in your programme. The third year contains the fewest number of compulsory courses; there is a lot of space and time for you, to choose the courses which you validate as important, relevant, pleasant or interesting. Right at the beginnig it is clear that biotechnology is a very broad science: a lot of interdicipinary courses, with clear applications. Practicals form for about 30 percent an important part of the study programme.
These optional courses are quite important with regard to the MSc-programme, in which you can participate after the BSc-programme Biotechnology. The transfer between these two programmes can be very prompt, but if a delay of study would be a result, also a gradual transition can be made. After the BSc-programme Biotechnology, you can continue with the MSc-programme Biotechnology, but - with unconditional permission - you are also able to particpate in the MSc-programmes Bioinformatics, Plant Biotechnology and Molecular Sciences. Besides these programmes, you can also do another MSc at Wageningen University, however, you should carefully set up the optional courses in the BSc-program.
